Description
📍 Cali
Cali is the capital city of the Cauca Valley (the Cauca is the second largest river in the country), on the west bank of the river. This town lies at an altitude of 1000m. The Caleña population consists of mestizos (mixed-race) and whites (73.3%), Afro-Colombians (26%) and indigenous people (0.5%). Cali is one of the South-American cities where the majority of the population has some black heritage. The Afro Colombian influence is important and is noticeable in particular in the musical culture of the city. Indeed, Cali is Colombia's capital of salsa. Thanks to its climate and terrain, Cali has a great natural wealth. The influx of several rivers makes its land suitable for agriculture, in particular sugarcane cultivation. This area is also rich in minerals, with many coal mines. Among the main attractions in Cali, you will find many cultural centres, theaters, exhibitions, shows and libraries (Casa cultural Proartes, Cali Centro Cultural, Centro cultural Comfandi de Santa Rosa, Jorge Isaacs Theatre, Los Cristales Outdoor Theatre). The city also has many museums: Archaeological Museum La Merced, San Francisco religious and colonial Museum, Gold Museum Calima, Museum of Modern Art La Tertulia, Archaeological Museum of the University of Valle, the Sugarcane Museum, departmental Museum of Natural Science Federico Carlos Lehman Valencia and the Museum of Natural History…
