Description
📍 Valle Del Cocora
The Cocora Valley gets its name from the Quimbaya princess, whose name means water star. The Quimbaya Indians were a tribe characterized by the production of very beautiful and high quality gold pieces. They were located throughout the coffee region and had a high cultural development.
In this zone of the country is where the wax palm grows the most, for this reason, with the intention of stopping the exploitation of the Quindío wax palm and taking care of the endemic species found in the region, during the government of President Belisario Betancour, a sanctuary was created in the Cocora Valley and the wax palm was proposed as the national tree of Colombia.
